[The captain is not feeling so well, so he's trying to head back home from another midnight outing. To be honest, it had been building up and like the stubborn fool he can be, he ignored it till now. His body was swaying as he walks, his cheeks are flushed with the onset of a fever, and his throat hurts from coughing too much.

[The sound of water filters through the journal, lightly splashing onto the rocks. Byakuya is sitting right in the midst, his feet, ankles, and bottom are submerged while his upturned knees are dry. Half his hakama is wet. A sigh is heard as he leans back on one hand, the other resting on a knee.

He's at one of the lakes, his journal open in case anything of interest happens.]

I often wonder about those back in our own worlds. What they are doing now and about those who have been here once before. I have heard stories about people having been sent back or that they return. Some remember and some do not. This is baffling and something that I cannot fathom.

I have been told Rukia was sent home, yet when I saw her last in Hueco Mundo, she gave no indication of ever setting foot in this place.

[Sigh and a slight hiss as he moves to sit on his bed, looking out the window and placing the journal with a slight thud on his bed.]

Or have I heard wrong?

[He's outside, in a small clearing, with Senbonzakura. After the few days of being cooped up and resting, he decided he wanted out and get some training done.

Carefully, slowly, he worked through a kata, hissing when his shoulders protested. After a particular rotation of his shoulder, he gave a short, bitten cry and dropped the zanpakuto, going to one knee and clutching his shoulder. Most of his bandages had been removed but for the ones around his wrists and chests, showing that he was well on his way, but not quite healed.]

[Byakuya is out and about again, this time he has a destination. He needs to grab more rolled gauze. He'd run out and he'd been good about keeping his scratches to a minimum. But without the bandages, the itchiness was becoming unbearable again and the ointment prevented so much.

[So, being shot up full of chemicals. Yeah, so not a pleasant feeling. Actually, it kinda took away the feeling. And the coherency. And the awareness. And, well, a lot of stuff. Overdose on too many things.

Byakuya is just stumbling along the road, shuffling here and there, not exactly going in any particular direction. His body is too busy trying to figure out what to do with all the stuff in his system. Flush it out somehow.

For now, here, have a severely drugged up Byakuya wandering the town. Help him home?]

[Byakuya wondered the streets, once he settled himself into the house he arrived in. This place was different, unlike Earth or Soul Society. It was as if time had spun backward in another country, an old town. It certain had that feel to it.

The feel of antiquity, only how far back (or maybe it wasn't very far) he didn't know.

Byakuya Kuchiki History

NAME: Byakuya Kuchiki
FANDOM: Bleach
BACKGROUND:
To put it simply, Byakuya Kuchiki acts haughty and aloof most of the time because he is a Noble, an aristocrat if you will. He appears serene yet apathetic towards practically everything, even in the most severe of situations. Above all, he is a man of the law. His life revolves around the law and upholding it. If he, the 28th head of the Kuchiki family in the Soul Society, a place where people go when they die in the real world and become Soul Reapers, or Shinigami, cannot uphold the law, then who will? So, he sets the example of how the law should be followed. However, even he had broken the law at one point. Well, not a law per se, but the law of his family. He married a woman named Hisana, who was a commoner in the Rukongai District (basically, the area where any and all peasants live in Soul Society). However, she had died only a few years into their marriage and upon her death bed, she made him promise to find her younger sister, Rukia and protect her. He kept his promise and found Rukia, adopting her as his younger sister against his family’s orders. Afterward, however, he made yet another promise but this time to his parent’s grave and that was to never break the law again.

Even so, he loves Rukia very much, even calling her his “pride.” But because of a certain situation she had become involved in, with on Ichigo Kurosaki and him becoming a substitute Soul Reaper, she was arrested and sentenced to death. And now, Byakuya is conflicted. Though he does not show it, he has two very different promises that he must uphold yet inevitably, one will be broken. Protect Rukia or uphold the law? So far, he has done nothing and it seemed that he had chosen the latter. That is, until Ichigo had come during the execution and save Rukia.

Byakuya Kuchiki is also the 6th Division Captain of the 13 Court Guard Squad and as such, he also has achieved Bankai. Bankai is the most powerful form of a zanpakuto (swords) and only few in Soul Society ever achieve it (only captains and a select few lieutenants). His zanpakuto is called Senbonzakura. He also knows the art of shunpo, a.k.a. flash-step (moving faster than the eye can follow) as well as kido, which is the art of offensive and defensive spells. He can cast up the 81st (of 99) kidou spell without the incantation.

Byakuya Kuchiki is the head of the Kuchiki clan and because of his upbringing, he is very cold and apathetic, almost serene even in battle. Another trait from his noble upbringing is his superiority complex. He doesn’t so much as flaunt it as give off the vibe of being “better than thou.” He does not like it when his name is used so informally - for example Ichigo just calls him “Byakuya” but for some reason has not tried to change it. The only other exception is Yachiru and that is because she is a child.

He has a strong belief in law and order, following them to his upmost ability though it has caused his conflicts in the past. 50 years prior to the current storyline, Byakuya married a woman named Hisana. However, Hisana was a commoner but Byakuya didn’t care. Unfortunately, she passed away a few years after their marriage, but before she died he was told about her sister, Rukia. She had left Rukia when she was just an infant and Byakuya promised Hisana that he would find Rukia and take care of her, but would also not tell her that Hisana was her sister. Byakuya did as promised but he also detached himself. He promised his parents, making another vow to not breakthe law ever again. When Rukia was sentenced to death, he was conflicted: to keep the promise to his parents or the promise to his late wife?

Eventually, he chose the latter and in doing so, allowed himself some closure. He would still follow the law but he would not be as rigid as he used to be. He actually cares for Rukia deeply, as her older brother. But his cold and calm features gives the illusion that he doesn’t care about anyone, just the law and himself. But in fact, he cares for all those close and important to him.
